Help Us Provide a Second Life-Saving Dialysis Machine for Chios Hospital
Since 1993, the Artificial Kidney Unit (AKU) at the General Hospital of Chios has provided vital care to the island’s kidney patients. Thanks to the generosity of our community, our previous campaign successfully raised the funds to deliver a brand-new, state-of-the-art dialysis machine to the unit—giving local patients access to modern hemodiafiltration (online HDF) treatments that significantly improve survival rates and overall quality of life.
However, the need remains urgent. The unit currently serves over 60 local patients, and several aging machines (dating back to 2003–2006) are still in daily operation. Despite tireless maintenance by hospital staff, these outdated models frequently malfunction, and public health funding continues to fall short of covering immediate equipment replacements.
Building on our past success, The Chios Society of Detroit, in conjunction with the Chios Societies of America and Canada and our local partner organizations, is launching a new campaign to donate a second modern dialysis machine to the Nephrology Department in Chios.
Our target for this new machine is $17,500 (including VAT).
Every contribution brings us one step closer to ensuring that patients on the island receive the reliable, high-quality care they deserve. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the people of Chios.
